So It's Time For The Web

Well I think its time for a post about some web stuff. Mainly Basics. Some awesome browser's, some rss stuff, some stuff on making your internet go a little faster. Just some basics at first and I think I'll throw in an app also that tells you when anything tries to connect to the internet, I think I'll throw in an app about also about a program that will lock your keychains on your internet browser also. Well enough blabbing lets get to the points.

1. Web Browsers

Well were do we start. Well I'm sure anyone reading this knows about safari so there's no need to bring that up. Oh yes I got a few for you all.

Mozilla Firefox This browser is great if you want a browser that you can basically customize anything on. Now I use to use it alot but when you get all those add ons it kinda starts to slow down a bit.

Then there's Camino This browser runs the Firefox engine but packs the mac punch. It runs better than Firefox I think and its my 2nd favorite web browser. It was my first but I had problem's with getting it to block ad's as good as

OmniWeb This browser is really nice I love the way it handles tabs and everything has great blocking features and had a good rss reader built right into it. I really recommend checking this browser out.

2. RSS

I really don't use the stock RSS readers that come with a web application/browser. But the best one I have found and of course this app is free so it makes it all the better is Vienna. It's a great RSS reader and when you boot it up you can set it to update your topics and everything. If your using Omniweb it has a setting in it to make the default RSS reader Vienna so it transfers all your RSS to that. It's really quite nice.

3. Blogging

Well if your reading this you know I use blogger but I found a great app that runs all your web blogs on it. So you can post to multiple blogs and its got a great editor. It's got all the html stuff on it you could need and its what I do all my writing in. This app would be called MarsEdit.

4. Keychain Protection

Well the app I use for protecting my keychains is called 1passwd. It's really awesome. It keeps track of all your passwords on your browser and no one can sign in using your stuff unless they know the master password. So it's really worth checking out.

5. Internet Sniffer

A cool app that will tell you if anything on your computer is ever trying to connect to the internet is little snitch. Basically it tells you wants trying to connect to the internet and you have to allow it or deny it. You can allow it once or allow it forever whatever you choose to pick.

6. Speeding Up Your Internet

Ok here's a site that shows you a cool way to speed up your internet settings. Make sure to read the instructions once or twice before you attempt this. Make sure to write down your previous dns settings if there is any. My friend didn't do it and he screwed up his internet and everything. I did it and i've had no problems with it. My friend was also on vista though. The site is Open DNS

Now if you want to test your internet speed before doing the open dns and after doing it here's a cool site that will check your internet speed for you. Speedtest.

Well that's all I can think of for right now. If I think of anything else I'll be sure to post it so you all can know.

Some Free Software

Hey I found a site that has a couple free apps that are neat. It's called Free Mac Soft.

They have a program called lite icon its like candybar but free. So I've been playing with it since you don't have to pay for it =).

Then they have an app delete program called AppCleaner. I've used free apps like this but I have to say this has the best features so far so I'm using this app now.

Then they have a program called secure files But the description is in French or something so I can't read it. If anyone wants to check it out and tell me what it does that would be awesome =)

Computer Problems

Hey everyone if there's no post for a couple days I want you guys to know why. My iMac G5 is having power issues. It keeps shutting down when it feels like it. I was going to take it in but I took it apart and cleaned it and got all the dust out of it and it started working again. But now if its on sleep to long it shuts down. So pretty soon I'm going to be taking it in to get looked at.

So You Got A 360

Well I don't know if you have one but I have a 360 and I love it. One thing I noticed though is you have to have media center and a pc to share stuff from your computer. Well I though that was lame and I knew I had to find a fix for that. Well I did.

The fix is called Connect360

Made by Nullriver Software It is an app that anyone that has a 360 should have. i've made custom background themes using this program its nice. Hmmm gives me an idea I should put an apple logo on my 360 background lol.

Well check it out and I hope you have as much fun with this app as I do =)

So Your Dock Is A Little Crazy

Well alot of people when they get new apps just add it to there dock. So then they get this huge dock minimized to its smallest capacity. Well I'm going to show you some cool work arounds for your dock.

First thing is first get application enhancer and then get clear dock. Doing this is going to make your dock look so much more user friendly and you can change the color of the border to match your current desktop or theme. If you don't like Unsanity that's one of there apps so if you don't like em don't download it. I just love having a clear dock though lol

Ok now to get all those icons out of your dock, And the best way I have found to do that is Overflow. It adds one icon to your dock and you click it, And it opens up and you can have categories of your apps and you can put all your apps in em. I love this app it is really quite useful for shrinking your dock size.

Now you can move the dock around where ever you may like. Heck if you want it at the top next to the menu bar use Mac Pilot. That will get it up there.

Now I don't really use this app but if you really want your dock to look different you might consider Skin a Dock. It won't be the coolest thing for those who want there mac to have a really nice clean look but if you want your dock to look cool and look like no on else's you might consider this app.

Now you can also add as many docks as you want. So you can categorize your dock's to use for certain things and only put certain apps in em. So if your doing video stuff wip out the video dock and then you got your video dock. The app is called Dock Fun. Now I like Overflow much better but you might like Dock Fun.

Well I hope I pointed out some cool apps for you to help you get your mac more customized to the way you want it.

Add It To Your Menubar

This post is going to be about what I got in my menu bar and hopes that I can help you get some cool stuff in there. Now you may not want to put to much in your menu bar cause you will get quite a bit in there lol. But here we go.

First thing I have in my menu bar that you may like to have is ByteController It adds a previous and next track button and a pause/play button to your menu bar. It is used to control your itunes of course and it can be handy at times.

Then there's WeatherSnitch. This app shows your current weather outside and also has a detailed forcast. Just enter your zip code and it will show up. It also has growl support so everytime the weather is updated it will show you also.

Then there's iStat Menus. It adds the stats of anything you choose for it to track onto your menu bar. I have mine showing my networks current upload and download speed. I also have it showing my proccesor usage and I also have it showing my ram usage. It by far is a really nice app to have and of course all these apps are free so thats really nice.

I also have my clock changed to show like this. Wed Jun * 27 * 2007 * 2:48PM. It's really nice cause I can see date and everything just by looking up into my task bar. The tutorial can be found at this link. Now that is the topic of the video that will show you how to do it.

Well thanks for reading and hope to hear from you all.

Keeping Your Mac Running Smoothly

Ok I had a request for this so I'm going to help you guys the best I can. I use apps and stuff to do this so I'll name the apps and put links so you guys can get em to.

I can say my number one app I use to keep my computer running top notch has to be "Onyx". Made by Titanium Softwares. It does one heck of a job doing anything you need maitnence for. I use to clean all my caches, repair permissions and optimize my system. It is really the one app I recommend and the only thing I use. I've had the iMac G5 for over 2 years and its still running as good as new. So definitley get this app. It can be found out this link. http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html

Now another app that is awesome to have is "Mac Pilot". It unlocks alot of hidden features and turns stuff off that you dont want running. I use it to turn off my dashboard when I dont need it cause it is quite the ram hog. Mac Pilot is made by "Koingo Software" and can be found at http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php. So if you want to keep your system optimized and running in tip top shape I suggest using these two apps.
